films 2013

DoubtExcellent. So, did he or is Meryl Streep simply nasty?

Ondine. That's how Neil Jordan sees the world. Not bad at all.

Endgame. Another history lesson. William Hurt can do any accent.

Bright Star. Glorious. Beautiful. Stunning.

Broadchurch. Second time around, watching R searching for clues in two long sessions, excellent TV allround.

The Lincoln Lawyer. A nice and easy thriller for a change, just lean back and watch.

A Separation. This is complex, intimate, decent people. Well worth watching.

The Company You KeepAnother history lesson. Something odd about adding up the years, 1972 + 30 is not 2013, but what the heck. It's really good to see older faces not dolled up.

Frances HaA gem, lovely.

The Wall. Profound. That's the word. Also frightening, very much so. Loneliness, loss, autonomy. Do not watch this when you are on your own. But a must see. One of the best.

My Week with Marylin. Gosh, she was so young.

Baraka. Well, gorgeous.

No. History, memory. The Power of the People and the Advertising Media. Don Draper: watch!

Red Riding Trilogy. This is serious stuff, I dedicated three nights to it, accent and all.

The cry of the owl. A big fat thriller.

The conspirator. A history lesson.

A late quartet. Couldn't resist after the previous one. Serious egocentric obsessed people. Christopher Walken has gorgeous hands. No string instrument was harmed in the making of this movie.

Quartet. Feelgood boredom for a night out with the sister-in-law.

Take this waltz. Childish. Funny. Yes. No. But I like Sarah Polley. But what is Michelle Williams wearing????

The Secret in Their Eyes. Very elegant.

Meek's Cutoff. Oh so very very good.

Side Effects. Clever little film.

On the Road. Suddenly I remember reading...

Ginger and Rosa. Dull.

The Hunt. Fantastic. Danish. Good.

The PaperboyAbsolutely excellent.

Down in the ValleyAh well, Edward Norton... But the amount of guns people just have lying around leaves me speechless.

Searching for SugarmanBeautiful.

The OrangesBenign boredom.

Walkabout. Stunning, different.

Easy money. Scandinavian thriller, no less.

Arbitrage. Not enough Susan Sarandon.

Hitchcock. Very entertaining and excellent acting.

Hyde Park on Hudson. Mildly amusing. Just barely so.

Angel's Share. A nice and easy one by master film maker Ken Loach.

The Impossible. Not sure we need to watch this movie, but there I did it.

Rust and BoneThis one is different. Harsh, rough, realistic even. Love.

Beasts of the Southern Wild. This is one of these aaah oooh experiences. Could be hell, could be heaven.

The sessions. Only in some parts of the world is this seen as exceptional. Of course it is, but not in the sense that sexuality is a normal part of life.

Life of Pi. Aaaaah.

Seven Psychopaths. To say this is weird would be a total underestimation.

Silver Linings Playbook. Taxi driver, huh? Not bad, Robert de Niro.

Unknown. Solidly stretches any shred of plausibility you may have expected.

Mother and child. Interesting. Naomi Watts is as good as ever.

The rum diary. The book was better, obviously. All a bit stretched.

Page Eight. A clever one. With Bill Nighy. Good. Very good.

Fritz Bauer. Death by instalments. Painful. Necessary.

Lemon TreeSad, beautiful film, three languages.

Incendies. Magnificent.

The Hunger Games. Oh dear, sigh... dreadful actually.

Jack goes boating. Nice soundtrack, New York people are weird.

Peacock. Odd one.

Harry Brown is a film about violence, not a violent film. Says Michael Caine.

War and love in Kabul. Breaks your heart.

Dan in real life. Nice innocent fun, for a change.

Boxhagener Platz. Rübchen mit Rindfleisch und dem Kapitalismus wird ein Schnippchen geschlagen.

Infamous. Quite the contrast.

Within the Whirlwind. This is Tenko in Siberia. But it is also about a brave woman.

The Deer Hunter. One of the best.

Days of heaven. Stunning.

Road to Guatanamo. It inspires neither anger nor tears, just a numb realization that the United States has somehow gone terribly awry.

Dark Blue Almost Black.

Precious. Not my world, nothing in my scope of experience. But neither are most of the movies.

When did you last see your father.  A tad gushy, but I love Jim Broadbent.

In the land of blood and honey. She did her homework and she tried hard, Ms Jolie did, the story is gruesome and a bit far fetched amid this cruel war scenario, the dialogue, oh well. Best were the interviews with the actors on the DVD. Very inspiring and honest.

Once upon a time in Anatolia. A good bit too long for my taste.
