This ties in with something I learned recently about gut hormones. A friend of a friend of mine is considering bariatric surgery (sleeve) which would lower the amount of the hormone, ghrelin, that the stomach produces. She is morbidly obese and has not been able to lose weight no matter how hard she has tried. She wouldn't need that drastic surgery if it were to be discovered that her gut bacteria is the source of her inability to lose weight, rather than the gut hormone discussed briefly here:
