another self seeded blue banana pumpkin |
It's that kind of day when the very best thing I am looking forward to is curling up somewhere like an animal in a dark burrow and falling asleep. But no, I have decided that I am fit for work, whereby fit is a term open to definition. Today, it means I am attempting to avoid the deadline when my employer hands over all responsibility to my health insurance, which is all perfectly civilised and proper but for reasons I don't really know, it's become my freak-out point.
And so I head off into the world of activity and decision making, like the idiot I am.
Watch me fail.
Freak-out points have no logic to them by very definition.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good decision to me. On some level, we always have the power to decide what we will do, no matter what happens. I am picturing you pedaling your bicycle through the woods. Always.
ReplyDeleteThe photo of your blue banana pumpkin moved me to Google the same, which led me to this splendid website showing a splendid variety of winter squashes:

This is the the day. Yep. Yesirree. I have decided to go to ocean in my mind where I am strong and can leap into the sea air alongside a huge galloping dog. Thank you, Sabine.
Watch you do it and do it well!!!!
ReplyDeleteLove the music...completely new to me. Fun.
This band, TheThe, is called post-punk, important part of the soundtrack of my 1980s.
DeleteI thought Germany had national health care so I looked it up. seems to be closer to the ACA in that insurance is mandatory. when the ACA went into effect we were close enough to Medicare that we just paid the fine, much cheaper, since there were months when we had no income. plus we are lucky to have pretty good health.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was living in Ireland and Africa and certainly when we were travelling in Asia, we had no health insurance. All through my pregnancy, birth, my child's firts ten years of life. We were just healthy or met the right kind of people when we needed help.
DeleteAlthough in our African paradise, there was - and still is - decent basic free health care for all.
Like all people in employment here I must have basic statutory health insurance (as do 90% of people in Germany) which currently is 15% of my gross salary deducted at source. My employer has to pay the same amount and that's mostly it. If I need to go to hospital, I have to pay 10 Eur/day for the first four weeks, after which it's free. And there is a copay of 5 - 10 Eur for every prescription medication. Other stuff like physio costs me 20 Eur copay for ten 40 min sessions, specs I need to pay myself but can set off against tax.
But here's the freak-out for me: If I am on a sick cert, ie unable to work, my salary is paid by my employer for six weeks and if I'm still unfit to work after that period, my salary is then paid by my health insurance (for another 72 weeks after which I should either be cured, dead or will be forced to retire) and they work on the presumption that at least 50% of long-term illness people are cheating and well, they know how to make me defensive and crabby. Or maybe I am just too fed up with it all.
I hope your work day went well and that you surprised yourself with your strength.
ReplyDeleteThat pumpkin is beautiful. It looks like an astronomical event.
ReplyDeletePerhaps leave open the possibility that you won't fail! One never knows...
You will not fail.
ReplyDeleteI admire you.
