If you are distressed by anything external, the pain is not due to the thing itself, but to your estimate of it; and this you have the power to revoke at any moment.

I am way overestimating things today. Unsucessfully trying to locate that power switch to revoke etc.

(A long time ago, I had notions of playing the recorder like a real musician, not just like the foolish amateur I was. In my dreams I wanted to be gifted. For a while I collected Frans Brüggen records. He died last month. He was a master of his art.)

  1. Well, yes. Sometimes it IS the estimate of it but for me, sometimes the pain is simply too overwhelming to revoke.
Does that mean I'm not enlightened enough?

  2. The guy who wrote that was an emperor in ancient Rome, probably full of himself and never had to work for his supper. Maybe. Not that I know much about life in ancient Rome.

  3. I'm glad this master had a long life.
I still have my beautiful alto recorder. Never made it past half way through Vol.I of our Mario Duschenes's teachings.
