Up on that hill again, we tried to count how often we have been here, a couple of hundred times maybe. Showing off the views to visitors from far away places sharing a late summer's evening al fresco dinner, escaping the heat of the valley, with an excited S after heavy snowfall, walking, climbing (it's a steep steep path) through the thick forest and down again along the old statues marking the stations of the cross or past the small vineyard, and there have been days when I was really quite dreadfully ill in mind and body when R drove me up here to look out across the west and find myself again in the order of all things.
Today, we visited the posh restaurant and spent a small fortune on two very small fancy cakes and coffee, seated between the Japanese and Russian tourists and their well behaved children.

There is a cold front rolling in from the west. Finally.

Such a beautiful view from the hill. In the second photo, I can see a ship in the river. Across the river from the ship and to the right is a tower. Is that a church? Also way up in the left side of the photo with the ship is what looks like more river or maybe a lake? And a small town up in the right side of the photo. Everything looks different from a higher place, doesn't it? And about looking west. If you hadn't identified the direction, I would have thought you were looking to the east. Maybe it's because so many rivers have been to the east of me all my life that I tend to think that looking across a river is looking east. Or did I misunderstand the direction you are looking? (-:

The ship is actually a ferry for commuter traffic. It criss crosses the river all day and well into the night.
There are several churches but I think you can only really see one on this side of the river and to the left of the ferry. The other towers are probably turrets from the old mansions - some of them hotels now - on the western shore of the river.
The shiny area up high to the left is a sea of greenhouses and the small town up right is yet another suburb. And yes, this is facing west.
If you look closely you can see a faint golfball like structure at the top middle of the picture. This is a radar dome which is part of a reserach institute for high frequency physics.

There is something about looking out from a hill that lightens the soul. I'm lucky, I live near the top of one.

Love these views, Sabine. I'm always so glad when you take a walk and show me places I know I will never see with my eyes. I like looking through yours here. Beautiful.
