This picture was taken from the top of one of the seven hills east of the river Rhine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petersberg_%28Siebengebirge%29) looking west on Sunday afternoon at 4.15 pm just before sunset.
(-: After I posted my comment, it occurred to me that maybe it was a sunset. Because your first photo didn't show the sun, I guessed it was a sunrise. Sunset here is at 4:15, too. It's been a dark cloudy day with snow predicted tonight.
