Of course some women will continue to collude with these scumbags, they will vote for Trump, they will excuse him. Women are good at excusing men. If we weren’t, the human race would die out. Some women will look away, believing men can’t help it and carry on humouring the “banter”. You drop something in a restaurant and a guy says: “While you are down there love…” and you laugh because if you didn’t you might stick a fork in his eye. And you remember being 14 and being bruised from mere “groping” but thinking yourself lucky because the worst didn’t happen. You think about how you knew the practice of misogyny long before you heard the theory, so wonder how the good guys are slightly baffled by it.
For misogyny is not some secret society, a form of freemasonry. It is mainstream. It is endorsed by Trump. It is not simply unacceptable, it is murderous.
Kill it dead.

Sort of what I wrote about tonight. Yes. Exactly.

I was amazed to see, on Facebook, some women defending Trump using just these sorts of arguments. "Well, they're just words," they say, brushing off all his foul language and menacing intent. I don't get it. I don't understand how ANYONE could vote for him, male or female.

It's taken me decades to reach the point of being able to challenge it. One of my brothers thinks it's 'funny' - and until recently I've shrugged and turned to the other way. But I only had to say, twice, 'You're out of order' - and it stopped.

It's so hard, when so many of us have lived all our lives with it, to stand up and challenge it. But I no longer care if someone responds by suggesting I need a good f*cking (I've had that, too - though not from my brother) as it says so much more about him than it does about me. I can't change the world, but if I make one man think twice, then it's worth it.

My country is going insane, and if Trump is elected it will take the whole f*cking planet with it. The disregard for women's autonomy is a symptom of utter pathological predation.

When he said "locker room talk" I wondered why do men talk about this all the time in locker rooms, which could be any room they are in. I've always thought that a lot of men talk this way and this incident seems to confirm that. He won't be elected, I strongly believe that, but he will still be out there and still just as crazy and his fans will probably be rabid!

PS: Thank you so much for your comment, Sabine. It led me here and I love your writing. So happy to have found you.

I am in a swing state. Some days are more horrible than others. There are strong women around me though, and supportive men. I have hope for the future.
