Fats Domino

He was one year older than my father. But my father always shouted upstairs, turn that music down.

My mother used to jig around the kitchen to Fats Domino - how wonderful, to be remembered for making people dance!

At least he called it music! A lot of what my children listened to when they were growing up sounded like noise. You and I were lucky. The music from our youth is still popular - even with my children! Sometimes I have trouble remembering what I did yesterday, but if a song from the sixties comes on the radio all the words are right there in my head and I'm ready to dance. Go figure.

One of my most beloved musicians ... his 45 rpm's were the ones I played the most when I found my mother's old collection.

Three joys of my childhood in the 1950s in Northern California, south of San Francisco. Fats Domino and all the great music on the radio and on 45 records. Reading books in my bedroom. Walking alone with our family's dog, Star, down country roads, past the riding stable, to the woods, exploring far outside the city limits. Curious, fearless. The music gave me hope and courage.
