Thank for the introduction to Dalida. I'm moved by her singing and her life. Now I'm looking for a good translation of this song. Haven't found one yet. Enjoyed listening to her many performances that can be found on YouTube. Wondering why I hadn't heard of her before.

The drama and tragedy surrounding this song is one of my primary school years' memories. I would watch TV in a neighbour's house - we didn't have one at home - and the images of weeping Italians after the suicide of Dalida's lover and her singing this song with tears running down her face and detonation clouds from Vietnam and warnings about rabies are forever jumbled together in my mind. That and the smell of the hot tarmac and buddleia blossoms.
